Oscar Taveras’ Death Sends Shock Waves Through Cardinals, Rest Of MLB

Major League Baseball lost a potential superstar.

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras and his girlfriend died in a car accident Sunday in the Dominican Republic, the team confirmed via a press release issued during Game 5 of the World Series. The tragic news sent shock waves throughout the Cardinals organization and the rest of Major League Baseball.

Players, media members and fans all took to social media late Sunday night to express their sadness and disbelief. The 22-year-old, who was ranked the No. 3 prospect in baseball before the 2014 season, had an incredibly bright future.
