Grady Sizemore came back into Major League Baseball in 2014 after missing two seasons because of injury, and the three-time All-Star’s numbers certainly weren’t what they used to be.
But they were good enough for the Philadelphia Phillies.
The team announced Thursday that it had signed Sizemore to a one-year, $2 million contract before he could hit free agency. The 32-year-old outfielder joined Philadelphia in June after the Boston Red Sox released him.
Sizemore hit just .233 with a .654 OPS in 112 games in 2014. He did play considerably better for the Phillies than he did for the Red Sox, though, batting .253 with a .701 OPS.
However, it might not matter how Sizemore performs, as Phillies CEO Pat Gillick admitted to CSN Philly on Thursday that he didn’t think the team would contend in 2015 or 2016.
