It appears Luke Wilson is the front-runner to land the role as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in an upcoming movie about concussions in football.

The actor primarily known for comedies such as “Old School” and “Legally Blonde” would be using his talents for a much more serious role as concussions in the NFL have been a huge topic for discussion in recent years.

In the film, Goodell’s role is as the incoming NFL commissioner who investigates the connection between chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and playing football, according to The Wrap.

The movie — which hasn’t been named yet — also stars Will Smith as Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE in a professional football player. The drama will be produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Peter Landesman.

Notable actors joining Smith and potentially Wilson in the cast include Alec Baldwin, Albert Brooks, David Morse and Arliss Howard.

Not many details — including its release date — have been released about the unnamed project, but it’s sure to shed light on the important issue of concussions that surrounds football and sports as a whole.
