NFL: Houston Texans at Miami DolphinsThe New England Patriots appear to be making contingency plans in case their fears are realized regarding Jerod Mayo’s severe knee injury.

The Patriots brought five free-agent linebackers in for workouts on Monday, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates. The Patriots tried out former New York Giants linebacker Justin Anderson, former Oakland Raider Kaelin Burnett, former Houston Texans starter Tim Dobbins, former Indianapolis Colts fullback/linebacker Mario Harvey and former Cleveland Brown Paul Hazel.

The Patriots are unlikely to sign a linebacker before Thursday night’s game because of the short week of practice.

Mayo’s injury has not been announced, but Patriots players indicated on Sunday evening that it was season-ending.
