NFL: Tennessee Titans at Houston TexansThe New England Patriots are checking out available free agents at running back and defensive end after Stevan Ridley and Chandler Jones suffered injuries in consecutive weeks.

The Patriots worked out defensive end Scott Solomon and running back David Fluellen, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Thursday and a NESN source later confirmed.

Solomon was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday after recording seven tackles and one sack this season. Solomon was a 2012 seventh-round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans and also spent time with the New York Jets.

Fluellen originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie free agent out of Toledo before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts in August. He was waived by the Colts during final roster cuts Aug. 30.

Fluellen ran for 3,329 yards and 28 touchdowns on 560 carries in four years at Toledo. The 5-foot-11, 224-pound running back had 1,114 yards and 10 touchdowns in just nine games as a senior.

Fluellen ran a 4.67-second 40-yard dash and a 6.90-second three-cone drill at the NFL scouting combine in February. He ran the ball 23 times for 78 yards during the preseason with the Eagles and Colts.
