Royals Ace James Shields Has Chance To Prove Himself In World Series

James Shields will start for the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the World Series against the San Francisco Giants, and despite his “ace” status, the right-hander still has something to prove in Major League Baseball.

Shields played through pain to help his team emerge victorious in the American League Championship Series, and he even took tips from ex-teammate Jonny Gomes to develop into a leader in the Royals’ clubhouse. But Shields really hasn’t lived up to his “Big Game James” moniker, and NESN.com Red Sox beat writer Ricky Doyle explains why now is Shields’ chance to shine.
