Indian soccer is in mourning following Peter Biaksangzuala’s tragic death at age 23.

Biaksangzuala, a midfielder for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC in India’s Mizoram Premier League (or third tier), died Sunday from injuries he suffered during an Oct. 14 game against Chanmari West FC, the Mail reports.

Biaksangzuala scored the game-tying goal in the 62nd minute and tried to celebrate with an aerial somersault. But Biaksangzuala didn’t complete his flip and landed on his head.

Biaksangzuala was stretchered off the field and rushed to a local hospital, where it was revealed that he had severely damaged his spinal card. Biaksangzuala spent five days in intensive care but ultimately succumbed to his injures.

The Mizoaram Premier League eulogized Biaksangzuala on its Facebook page.
