Tim Hudson was wise to clear his schedule for October.
Hudson, who signed a two-year, $23 million contract with the San Francisco Giants last offseason, might have been destined for the World Series even if he didn’t land in the Bay Area. According to the 39-year-old hurler, the Kansas City Royals — San Francisco’s opponent in the Fall Classic — made him a “very good offer” in free agency.
“My chances of getting to the World Series were pretty good this year,” Hudson said Monday, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
Hudson, whose 2013 season ended prematurely because of an ankle injury, went 9-13 with a 3.57 ERA in 31 regular-season starts this year. The right-hander, who is making the first World Series trip of his 16-year career, didn’t factor into the decision in either one of his two starts this postseason while posting a 3.29 ERA.
Everything has worked out for all parties involved. We’ll find out soon enough whether Hudson really made the right decision last winter.
