Vincent Jackson already has a big fan on the New England Patriots.
With the NFL trade deadline looming on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, the Patriots have emerged as one of many teams who have expressed interest in acquiring the 6-foot-5, 241-pound receiver from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That’s welcome news to Patriots tight end Tim Wright.
Wright, whom New England acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for Logan Mankins before the season started, spoke highly of his former teammate during a Monday appearance on WEEI’s “Middays with MFB,” saying the receiver was someone he looked up to as a Buccaneer.
“He’s a great player. I learned a lot while I was under him,” Wright said, per WEEI.com. “Just details and route-running, things that the defensive backs look for. Different body controls — him being a bigger wideout, it was easy for me to see what he was talking about, and easy for me to go out there and try to implement those things that he was teaching me. … He’s a great person, great player, and I looked up to him while I was there.”
Jackson has 26 catches for 357 yards and two touchdowns for the lowly Bucs this season.
