Mike Babcock and Claude Julien are friends who share a mutual respect. Part of the reason could be because they both know what it takes to last a long time in one market.
Babcock has been with the Detroit Red Wings since 2005, and Julien has been behind the Boston Bruins’ bench since 2007. The two men — who worked together on Hockey Canada’s gold medal-winning Olympic team last winter — are now the longest-tenured head coaches in the NHL. They both moved up the list when Barry Trotz — who’s since been hired by the Washington Capitals — was fired by the Nashville Predators at the end of last season.
