Could the best wide receiver in the NFL be someone without a single Pro Bowl selection? Former NFL linebacker Brady Poppinga thinks so.
According to Poppinga, Jordy Nelson of the Green Bay Packers is the best in the business, which might be surprising to those fixated on the likes of Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green and Demaryius Thomas.
Nelson isn’t just a product of the Packers’ system or Aaron Rodgers’ stellar quarterback play, according to Poppinga. The 29-year-old receiver does everything extremely well, and it’s reasonable to think he’d post big numbers even if he played elsewhere. Yet Nelson’s name rarely comes up when discussing the league’s top wideouts.
Nelson is starting to earn more and more respect with each big performance, though. The former second-round pick enters Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings with 60 catches for 998 yards and nine touchdowns.
Poppinga recently broke down what makes Nelson the best in a video for FootballByFootball.com. Perhaps his inside look will shape your opinion.
