USATSI_8171715 (1)Boston Celtics starting point guard Rajon Rondo is a hot topic of early season trade rumors, but the Celtics don’t seem ready to give him up just yet.

The questions the Celtics face when it comes to striking a deal are, who would want Rondo and what would they be able to get in return? In fact, the best possible fit for Rondo could be the the team he already plays for, according to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix.

“I think there’s any number of teams in the league that he’d be a good fit on,” Mannix said on SI’s “Give & Go” video. “Boston, from what I gather from them, they don’t seem to be in any big rush to trade Rondo right now. Now, I’m not sure I get that, because Rondo and Marcus Smart in the backcourt, those are two guys that don’t have great perimeter skills.

“Still, you see them, the defensive intensity they bring, the ability to both get to the basket, I’m starting to think maybe Boston, with this group, might be the best fit for Rondo.”

Mannix and Rob Mahoney threw out the Atlanta Hawks and the struggling Los Angeles Lakers as potential destinations for Rondo.

“(The Hawks) have a lot of bigs who can space the floor,” Mahoney said. “They have a lot of guys who can kind of play off him in interesting ways, and yet they don’t really have any ball-dominant players who will take the ball out of his hands.”

If the Celtics were to trade Rondo, they could find themselves in the same situation.
