A quarterback sneak gone wrong gave the San Francisco 49ers a gut-wrenching loss Sunday.
The 49ers trailed 13-10 but had the ball at the St. Louis Rams’ 1-yard line on third-and-goal with nine seconds left in the game. That’s when Colin Kaepernick tried to sneak into the end zone for the potential winning touchdown — but forgot to take the ball with him.
The Rams recovered the fumble, which was upheld on review, even though Kaepernick was sure he made it into the end zone before losing the ball.
“I know I crossed the line,” he said after the game. “I did bobble the snap, but regardless.”
Regardless, it was a tough defeat for the 49ers, who fell to 4-4, three games behind the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals.
