Ole Miss-AuburnFlorida State and Mississippi State sit atop the College Football Rankings heading into Saturday’s slate. After that, though, it’s a bit of a mess.

There’s still a lot that can happen in the college football landscape, and the first seasonĀ of the new playoff system figures to have a scintilating finish. However, making sense of the current rankings might leave fans with a bit of a headache.

In a post for FootballByFootball.com, former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn tried to make sense of the complicated situation. His projections leave him with one very important question.

“One huge unknown is how the committee will view Auburn or Mississippi State as 1-loss teams who AREN’T conference champions compared to, say, a 1-loss Pac 12 champ in Oregon, or a one-loss Big 10 champ in Michigan State,” he wrote.
