Special-teams ace Don Jones won’t be returning to the New England Patriots.
Jones, who was released by the Patriots on Thanksgiving, was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins. Jones had six tackles for the Patriots in nine games this season. He originally was added to the Patriots’ roster after they claimed him off waivers from the Dolphins in September.
Jones originally signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent last season out of Arkansas State. He played all 16 games for the Dolphins as a rookie, leading the team with 11 tackles.
The Patriots travel to play the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. They currently have 52 players on their active roster and just eight on the practice squad, leaving three open spots.
