Kendrick Perkins has fallen on some tough times during his last few seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder. After averaging over 10 points per game with the Boston Celtics in 2009-10, the big man managed just 3.4 points per game last season.
Now, the two best players on his team — Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook — are out due to injury and the Thunder are in trouble.
With so much negativity surrounding Perkins these days, it’s important for him to keep mental focus throughout the season.
Apparently imagining “MVP” chants is one of those ways.
After a big win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, Perkins said he heard the crowd chanting his support after a scoring run.
“It felt good,” Perkins told the Daily Thunder. “I thought I heard a couple MVP chants.” After the reporter told him that he hadn’t heard any chants, Perkins responded, “Yeah, neither did I. Just in my head.”
Either this is Perkins’ way of trying to stay positive, or the Thunder’s turmoil has caused him to hallucinate.
