Lee Nguyen 'Honored' By Call-Up To US National Team Squad (Video)

Lee Nguyen had a good weekend.

After receiving word that he would be included in the latest U.S. men’s national soccer team squad Friday, Nguyen helped the New England Revolution advance to the Eastern Conference finals in the MLS Cup Playoffs on Sunday. Nguyen now is shifting his focus to impressing national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, according to MLSSoccer.com.

“When Jurgen called me, that’s when it started coming to fruition that this is possible,” Nguyen told MLSSoccer.com Sunday. “It was a great call, and we had a good conversation. This is hopefully just the first. I’ve still got to keep going and keep pushing, and that’s the main thing.”

Nguyen, whose stellar play with the Revolution has made him a candidate for the 2014 MLS MVP award, will return to the senior national team for the firs time since 2007. Nguyen was 20 years old when he made three international appearances (his only caps to date).

“I was just a little teenager,” Nguyen said of his previous stint on the national team. “It was a great experience for me. I’ve grown so much as a player and a person. Obviously, I’ve got more years under my belt, too. It’s definitely a dream to be able to come back in and represent your country. I can’t wait.”

Nguyen will participate in the United States’ training camp in London ahead of its final games of 2014. Team USA will face Colombia on Friday in London and Ireland on Nov. 18 in Dublin. Some speculate that Nguyen only might play against Colombia before returning to the Revolution.
