If Giants ace Madison Bumgarner had his way, he would’ve ridden a horse through the streets of San Francisco on Friday.
According to SFGate, as the Giants arrived for the start of the World Series parade, some members of the San Francisco Police Department greeted them. In between fist bumps, high fives and doling out congratulations, one policeman told Bumgarner to just let him know if there was anything he could for him.
It turned out there was something he could do for the MVP.
“At which point, Bumgarner looked over at the line of police horses and said, ‘Anything? How ’bout you letting me ride one of them horses in the parade?’ ” SFGate wrote.
Bumgarner’s wish almost was granted, but the police chief was called in to make the final decision. Considering the riots that would ensue if something happened to Bumgarner’s arm, they reached a compromise.
“How about a picture on the horse, and we keep that golden shoulder?” police chief Greg Suhr said.
Done and done. The country boy from Hickory, N.C., who certainly has experience riding horses, settled for a picture before hopping on board a float.
