Matt Bartkowski still is looking for his first regular-season NHL goal, but he picked up two important assists in Friday night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Bartkowski completed a slap pass to Boston Bruins winger Matt Fraser, who buried the puck past Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to tie the game at two goals apiece 9:33 into the third period.
As NESN’s Billy Jaffe explained, if Bartkowski had just taken his shot, it would have been very difficult for Fraser to control the puck and direct it into the net. Instead, Bartkowski turned his hand slightly to make the slap pass directly to Fraser. Bobrovsky never had a chance as the puck changed direction and found its way to the back of the net.
