One of Cuba’s most powerful sluggers is expected to find a new home by the end of the weekend.
Yasmany Tomas, who defected from his native country in June, is flying to the United States on Friday to meet with his agent, and a deal with an unknown MLB team is imminent, according to Jorge Arangure.

Some of the reported front-runners for the Tomas sweepstakes are the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants and a handful of others.
Tomas’ agent, Jay Alou, said that Tomas has already turned down an eight-year offer and that he’s looking for a shorter contract so that he can fetch even more money in free agency in the future. Tomas has said he wants to land a contract worth more than the $72 million deal Rusney Castillo signed with the Boston Red Sox this past summer.
His agent also says that Tomas has “got a lot more power” than fellow Cuban and 2014 American League rookie of the year Jose Abreu, who hit 36 home runs in his first season in the majors with the Chicago White Sox.
Tomas played in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and posted impressive numbers for the Cuban national team. In six games he hit .375 with two home runs and five RBIs.
