Report: Hanley Ramirez Willing To Change Positions; Third Base An Option

Hanley RamirezHanley Ramirez might have found a way to generate some more interest on the free-agent market.

CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reported Friday that the free-agent shortstop would be willing to change positions if he signs with a new team. According to Heyman, Ramirez is willing to play “wherever there’s a need.”

The most logical option for Ramirez would seem to be third base. Ramirez has 98 games of experience at the position, all coming in 2012 over split time with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers. Heyman points out, however, that moving to a corner outfield position or first base could also be in the cards for the 30-year-old. Ramirez has never played at first base or the outfield.

Ramirez, a three-time All-Star, is coming off a season in which he hit .283 over 128 games. Ramirez also hit 13 home runs with 71 RBIs and a .817 OPS.
