Robert Griffin III finally made his triumphant return to the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Except it wasn’t exactly triumphant.
After missing the previous six games with an ankle injury, Griffin took the field against the Minnesota Vikings and found himself in a close game with time winding down in the fourth quarter.
Facing a fourth-and-6 with 1:14 remaining and his team down three points, Washington’s chosen one needed a first down to keep the drive alive. He proceeded to do this.
RGIII’s dud into the ground at wide receiver Pierre Garcon’s feet was the nail in the coffin, as the Redskins lost 29-26.
To make matters worse, reports surfaced before the game that not everyone in Washington’s locker room was on board with Griffin starting. Backup Colt McCoy started the team’s previous two games, both wins, while Griffin now is 13-17 as an NFL starter, so it looks like they might have a point.
