Vince Carter hasn’t exactly received warm welcomes when he’s returned to the Air Canada Centre through the years, but Wednesday was a much different story.

The Toronto Raptors have been honoring former players for their 20th anniversary this season, so when Carter and his Memphis Grizzlies made their only trip north of the season, the Raptors had a video tribute ready for him. And even though the crowd initially booed Carter, the video and the ACC’s subsequent ovation brought him to tears.

Carter is one of the best Raptors in franchise history, but after six years with the team, he butted heads with their new management and was traded to the New Jersey Nets just 20 games into the 2004-05 season. He’s essentially been the most hated man in Toronto ever since, but luckily for Carter, fans forgot that Wednesday and let him have his moment.

Still, Carter was booed every time he touched the ball once the game started, as the Raptors went on to beat the Grizzlies 96-92.
