Boston College will play one more football game this season, at a venue that’s all too familiar for the hometown Red Sox.

After finishing the regular season with a 7-5 record, the Eagles will take on Penn State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27. The game will be played at Yankee Stadium.

BC will appear in its second bowl game in two years under head coach Steve Addazio, who also led his Eagles to a winning season in 2013. Addazio will hope to atone for BC’s postseason loss last season, a 42-19 defeat at the hands of Arizona in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl.

This year’s matchup will mark the Eagles’ first appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl, which kicked off in 2010 and is the only bowl game to be played in an MLB stadium. They’ll have their hands full against the 6-6 Nittany Lions, who will play in their first bowl since 2011 after being banned from postseason play for four years in the aftermath of Jerry Sandusky’s child sexual abuse scandal.

“Penn State has one of the greatest traditions in college football and there is quite a history between our two programs,” BC athletic director Brad Bates said, via BCEagles.com. “New York is within driving distance of our students and supporters, so we expect a great crowd of fans cheering on the Eagles. This is a wonderful reward for our student-athletes and we could not be more excited.”

Penn State has played BC 22 times since 1949 and leads the all-time series 19-4, but the Eagles have won the teams’ last three matchups.
