Steve Addazio has led Boston College to back-to-back winning seasons since taking over in December 2012. He’ll have plenty of chances to continue that success going forward.
BC has extended the contract of its head football coach through 2020, athletic director Brad Bates announced Thursday.
“In just two years, Steve Addazio has done an amazing job with our football program,” Bates said in statement, via BCEagles.com. “To lead a team to 14 wins and two consecutive bowl games during what was supposed to be a rebuilding process is a great accomplishment. Beyond winning, he has worked tirelessly to recruit top-notch student-athletes and develop lasting relationships with former players and the entire University community. He is one of the best motivators I’ve ever been around, and his enthusiasm is infectious. We are very fortunate to have him as our coach.”
Addazio took over a team that had stumbled to a 2-10 record in 2012 and had failed to reach a bowl game in back-to-back seasons. In his first season at Chestnut Hill, Addazio led the Eagles to a 7-6 record and a berth in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl against Arizona.
The 55-year-old head coach steered BC to another 7-6 record this season, highlighted by a win over then-No. 9 USC and a near-upset of top-ranked Florida State. The Eagles are set to play in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium against Penn State on Dec. 27.
“Boston College is a great, Jesuit Catholic education in a world-class city that competes in big-time college football and I am honored and humbled to be in this position,” Addazio said Thursday. “We have a lot more work to do, but I believe we are building the foundation for a great football program.”
