The Boston Bruins have sent 2014 first-round draft pick David Pastrnak to Providence, per the AHL’s transactions page.
The team has not made an official announcement.
The 18-year-old right winger has played in five games with Boston this season. He was scratched Saturday night against the Arizona Coyotes after playing in the first three games of the Western Conference road trip.
Pastrnak tallied one point (an assist) and 14 shots with an average of 14:01 of ice time per game. He played the majority of his even-strength shifts with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand.
If Pastrnak plays in more than nine NHL games this season, he’ll have two years remaining on his entry-level contract after 2014-15. It’s also possible the Bruins are sending him down to Providence to make roster room for a player who’s returning from injury in the near future.
Pastrnak led the P-Bruins in scoring at the time he was recalled to Boston in November. He has 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) in 17 games for Providence this season and was the AHL’s Rookie of the Month for October.
