Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen got quite the scare Saturday night.

Hansen was taken to the hospital after he collapsed on the bench during the Canucks’ game vs. the Calgary Flames. Despite the scary situation, Hansen is expected to be OK.

The collapse came after Hansen took a big hit from Calgary defenseman Dennis Wideman in the corner. Hansen absorbed the hit and looked a little shaken up afterwards but nothing out of the ordinary. He skated to the bench and took his seat. Just seconds later, though, he collapsed forward in his seat.

His Vancouver teammates quickly called for the doctor and play was stopped.

Hansen was taken to the hospital and obviously didn’t return to the game. Luckily, Canucks coach Willie Desjardins reported good news after the game.

“Everything looks good,” Desjardins said after the game. “It’s concerning. He seemed like he couldn’t get his breath there. When that happens it’s not usual, so you’re concerned. But everything’s checked out at the hospital and everything is fine.”

The incident was even more scary given what happened to Rich Peverley last season when the Dallas Stars forward collapsed on the bench during a game. He’s yet to return as his collapse was brought on by a heart issue.
