Jon Lester is the nicest dude in the world, and it isn’t even close.
It was announced Wednesday that the offseason’s most sought-after free agent had agreed to a six-year, $155 million deal with the Chicago Cubs. While the North Siders were positively giddy they won the Lester sweepstakes, the majority of the Boston Red Sox fanbase was left brokenhearted.
Lester, who spent his entire career with Boston before being traded to the Oakland Athletics in July, took to Twitter after the news broke to express his excitement about joining the Cubs, as well as to give Red Sox Nation one final message. That’s when everyone and their mom decided to tell Lester just what they thought of his decision.
While the southpaw received many well-wishes and tweets full of optimism — classic Cubs fans — he also received some not-so-nice messages. Still, Lester took the time to reply to more tweets than we ever would have.
Some fans took the news pretty well:

One fan took things way too far:

While another saw her bad week get worse:

Of course, in true Internet troll fashion, one person had some trouble with some spelling and grammar, but have no fear, Lester was there to correct him:

Well done, sir.
