Juan Francisco’s Boston Red Sox tenure lasted 13 days.
The Red Sox announced Tuesday that Francisco has not been tendered a contract for the 2015 season. The infielder was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays on Nov. 19 and designated for assignment last week when the Red Sox agreed to a four-year contract with Hanley Ramirez.
Francisco, who’s 27, now becomes a free agent. MLB Trade Rumors recently projected that Francisco would earn $2.2 million in arbitration.
Francisco hit .220 with 16 homers, 43 RBIs and a .747 OPS in 320 plate appearances over 106 games with the Blue Jays in 2014. He is a .248 hitter with a .786 OPS in 941 career plate appearances against right-handers and a .159 hitter with a .423 OPS in 150 career plate appearances versus left-handers.
The Red Sox also announced Tuesday that they have tendered 2015 contracts to the other 28 unsigned players on their major league roster.
