Mariners Start Awesome Ad Campaign After Nelson Cruz Signing (Photos)

The Seattle Mariners are hoping Safeco Field turns into a launching pad for home run balls after signing Nelson Cruz to a four-year, $57 million contract Thursday.

And in case it does, the team wants to warn everyone in Seattle that their windshields might receive some harm from moonshots hit by Cruz.

The team launched a clever marketing campaign in which they placed decals of a baseball breaking through a windshield on cars near the stadium along with a flier that read, “Danger: Nelson Cruz Home Run Zone” in order to generate some buzz for the signing.

Cruz led the American League with 40 home runs in 2014 and now the Mariners want everyone to know that nobody’s car is safe in Seattle.

Granted, Safeco Field isn’t Fenway Park, and players can’t exactly hit homers into the streets in Seattle like they can on Lansdowne Street, but it’s still a cool campaign — especially considering that the lucky people whose windshields were “smashed” by the promotion got two free tickets to a Mariners game in 2015.
