SAN DIEGO — Perhaps it was the open-air press box, but Qualcomm Stadium at times Sunday night sounded louder than Gillette Stadium during a home game. Seriously.

New England Patriots fans came out in droves for their team’s 23-14 win over the San Diego Chargers. Wide receiver Julian Edelman was stunned by the noise they created to hinder the Chargers’ offense.

“Foxboro faithful was there,” Edelman said. “That’s always awesome to see: Our fans come to other stadiums. I’ve never really seen anything like that. It was impressive. Our defensive chants sounded just as loud as Chargers chants. You expect nothing less from our fans. We like to have them in our corner.”

Cornerback Darrelle Revis delivered a simple “thank you, fans” in appreciation for their support, and running back Shane Vereen gave Pats Nation a shoutout on Twitter.

Check out the reaction the Patriots received when entering the field before kickoff:

To be fair to Chargers fans, they were extremely loud, too. It felt like a playoff atmosphere in San Diego, as both teams fought with postseason implications on the line.
