The San Diego Padres already have acquired one big-name outfielder, but apparently they don’t plan on stopping there.

The Padres and Tampa Bay Rays are discussing a potential trade that could involve several players, including Rays outfielder Wil Myers, sources told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal on Tuesday night. San Diego acquired All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp from the Los Angeles Dodgers via trade last week.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports provided an update later Tuesday night, claiming via sources that there was “significant optimism” that the deal would get done.

Passan reports that the Rays-Padres deal would be straight-up, but Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times adds that a third team potentially could be involved.

If the Padres land Myers, they would add a potent right-handed bat alongside Kemp in their outfield. After the Kansas City Royals dealt him to the Rays in 2012, Myers won American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2013 for posting a .293/.354/.478 slash line and clubbing 13 homers and 53 RBIs in 88 games.

Yet the 24-year-old was hampered by injury in 2014, missing nearly two months in the beginning of the season with a stress fracture in his wrist. Myers hit just .222 with six home runs and 35 RBIs in 87 games this season.
