Robert Griffin IIIRobert Griffin III has been noticeably quiet on social media recently, and it turns out it’s intentional.

The Washington Redskins quarterback reportedly is sick of his words on social media being negatively twisted, and said he’s taking a break from Facebook and Twitter until the end of his team’s NFL season.

“It just felt like, for me, anything I was saying, whether it was positive or negative, whether it was a positive retweet or anything, was getting twisted and turned against me and against this team,” Griffin said, via ESPN.com. “I feel I can be free up here and talk to you guys, but sometimes things get twisted and turned and it creates a distraction for the team. I didn’t want that to happen.”

Griffin has been criticized widely on Twitter, with some fans taking aim at him after he tweeted well wishes to Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While Griffin said he does enjoy interacting with fans, it was becoming too much of a distraction during the season.

“I will get back into that in the offseason,” he said. “I’m a social person. I like to be open and talk to the fans, and we’ll definitely get back to that, but for now I will just leave it alone.”
