Broncos’ Derek Wolfe: ‘I Hate The Patriots,’ Hope Colts ‘Whip’ Them

The Indianapolis Colts upset the Denver Broncos in their divisional-round matchup Sunday, but there’s at least one Bronco who hopes Indy keeps winning.

Denver defensive lineman Derek Wolfe unleashed a hard tackle on quarterback Andrew Luck in the Colts’ 24-13 win, and he later heaped praise on Luck after experiencing the signal-caller’s unconventional “trash talk” firsthand.

“He said, ‘Good play,'” Wolfe told The Denver Post’s Mike Klis after the game. “It’s fun to play against a guy who’s not whining because he gets hit. He knows we’re doing our jobs. He’s a good player, and he’s going to be a great player.”

Wolfe had less savory things to say about Luck’s upcoming AFC Championship Game opponents, the New England Patriots.

“(Luck is) growing up. He’s a man. I wish him nothing but the best,” Wolfe said. “I hope they go up to Foxboro, and I hope they whip the Patriots. I hate the Patriots.”

Perhaps Wolfe’s hatred for the Pats comes from the fact he’s never been on the field to see the Broncos beat them. Wolfe has been with Denver since 2012 and didn’t play in the teams’ 2013 AFC Championship Game matchup (the only win the Broncos have over the Patriots in that span).
