Kevin Love ‘Not A Max Player Yet,’ Cavaliers Coach David Blatt Contends

David Blatt is under fire once again.

The Cavaliers coach drew the ire of many a Cleveland fan Sunday for making a rather cryptic comment about power forward Kevin Love.

Blatt’s comment could mean one of two things. He simply could mean that Love doesn’t currently have an NBA maximum contract, which he sort of doesn’t. Love was making the maximum salary with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his contract only spanned four years rather than the maximum five for designated players.

But Blatt also could mean that Love isn’t playing like someone who’s making the league maximum, which, well, is true. A comment like that wouldn’t help the 19-19 Cavs, though, especially after recent allegations that Blatt isn’t getting through to them.

It’s not fair to place all of the blame on Blatt for Cleveland’s lackluster season. At the end of the night, he’s not the one on the court, so there’s only so much he can do.

But he certainly won’t garner many fans if he makes a habit out of publicly calling out players, if that’s indeed what he was doing.
