Darrelle Revis: Andrew Luck ‘Looks Like Peyton Manning All Over Again’

FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots have made Andrew Luck sometimes look like Curtis Painter in three career matchups, but Darrelle Revis gave the Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback a much more flattering comparison.

Luck has completed just 53.8 percent of his passes in his career against the Patriots for 968 yards and six touchdowns with eight interceptions, but Revis sees a future Hall of Famer.

“He’s very talented,” the All-Pro cornerback said Thursday in the Patriots’ locker room. “He’s a rising young star, and he’s unbelievable what he does, man. The passes he throws, the way he runs the offense kinda looks like Peyton Manning all over again. He’s great. You just gotta give him his credit. He’s worked hard, he’s brought them this far, and it’s the matchup we got. We’re looking forward to it.”

The Patriots beat the Colts 42-20 in Indianapolis in Week 11, but anything can happen in the playoffs. Revis’ formula for winning Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against Luck and the Colts sounds simple enough.

“What do we have to do? Just play Patriot football,” Revis said. “Just play Patriot football and continue to play like we’ve been playing all year and not put on any added pressure on us as a team. Just look at it that way. Just go out there and play Patriot football.”

Revis allowed only one catch for 6 yards on six targets to Luck in Week 11, with two pass breakups. Revis matched up on Reggie Wayne in that game, but there’s speculation that he could cover No. 1 wideout T.Y. Hilton on Sunday.

Revis re-posted an image from the NFL’s Instagram to his own account, featuring a picture of himself and Hilton, who caught 82 passes for 1,345 yards with seven touchdowns this season.

Revis said not to look too far into the re-gram.

“No. Just promoting the game,” he said. “That’s it. It’s me and him on the picture. It’s an NFL link, so it’s a promotion.”

Revis complimented the third-year pro, who had 21 receptions over 20 yards this season.

“He’s a great receiver,” Revis said. “He makes a lot of plays.”

Patriots safety Devin McCourty broke up Revis’ media scrum after 10 minutes, saying the cornerback had to get to practice.

“OK, we gotta go,” Revis said laughing. “The captain says so.”
