It’s probably hard for Jets fans to see Darrelle Revis, who started his career in New York, preparing for Super Bowl XLIX with the rival New England Patriots.
But the Patriots cornerback doesn’t think those fans should place any blame on him for that.
“It’s not really my fault,” Revis said during Tuesday’s Super Bowl Media Day in Phoenix, per WEEI.com. “I didn’t make the call. Management made the call at that time, and they felt it was best to get rid of me. So that’s the situation. That’s how I look at it.”
The Jets traded Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 after he missed almost all of the 2012 season with an ACL tear. The Bucs ended up releasing Revis after only one season despite him signing a six-year contract extension.
Revis signed a one-year contract, including a club option, with the Patriots in March 2014, and now he finally gets to play on the NFL’s biggest stage.
“It’s pretty awesome,” Revis said. “I mean, this is what you play for every year. In the offseason, you work hard to get to this point, and when you get there, like right now, it’s so surreal to me.
“It’s awesome, but it’s also crazy. But at the same time, it shows that hard work pays off, and there’s still work to be done. We have one more game left as a team to accomplish our ultimate goal, which is holding the Lombardi Trophy up.”
