It didn’t take long for Fernando Torres to rediscover his scoring touch after going back home.

Torres scored the first goals of his second stint with Atletico Madrid on Thursday. Torres struck early in each half of his team’s Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) draw against Real Madrid, and that double surpassed his previous goal tally for 2014-15, which stood at one when the game kicked off.

Torres scored his first goal just 46 seconds into the contest. It was both his first-ever goal at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and the fastest goal Real Madrid has conceded on its iconic home field in the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid tied the game later in the first half, but Torres wasn’t finished striking quickly. Torres restored Atletico Madrid’s advantage just 36 seconds into the second half.

Torres hadn’t scored two goals in the same game in over 15 months.

However, there would be no hat trick for Torres. Head coach Diego Simeone substituted for him after 57 minutes.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, but Atletico Madrid progressed to the next round after winning the two-game series 4-2 on aggregate.

Torres, 30, made an emotional return to his boyhood club earlier this month after seven-and-a-half years playing for clubs in England and Italy. Torres starred for Liverpool but famously flopped at Chelsea and AC Milan.

Torres scored his first two goals in his third game (second start) with Atletico Madrid. Surely, there is more to come from the deadly, turned ineffective, turned deadly-again striker.
