Mike Florio: Patriots Could Face Suspensions Depending On DeflateGate Findings

The NFL still is getting to the bottom of DeflateGate. It’s nearly impossible to determine potential punishments.

That being said, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk isn’t ruling out the possibility that the New England Patriots could face suspensions depending on what the league discovers in its investigation.

Just don’t expect any suspensions to be handed out before the Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX showdown with the Seattle Seahawks, as the investigation could extend into the coming weeks.

“I think they didn’t want to get themselves into a position where they reached conclusions and then have to do something before the Super Bowl,” Florio said Wednesday on WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan.” “If you play this out to its logical conclusion and decide there was deflation, and we’re going to assume that somebody knew about this, then the NFL may have been in a position where they have to suspend Bill Belichick, suspend Tom Brady for the Super Bowl, and I don’t think they wanted to do that.

“So I guess what I’m saying is suspensions would be on the table depending on what they ultimately find.”

Obviously, one should take this with a grain of salt. Florio simply is speculating about what could happen if the league ultimately finds the Patriots guilty of some wrongdoing. However, it’ll be interesting to see not only what the league finds but also how the league reacts to its findings.
