The Columbus Blue Jackets’ challenge of climbing up the standings and into a playoff spot after the All-Star break became a lot more difficult with Monday’s injury update on starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
The 2012-13 Vezina Trophy winner likely will miss four to six weeks because of a groin injury, the team announced. In addition to putting Bobrovsky on injured reserve, Columbus recalled goalie Anton Forsberg from the AHL’s Springfield Falcons. Forsberg probably will serve in a backup role to Curtis McElhinney.
Bobrovsky is 16-15-2 with a .913 save percentage and a 2.85 goals against average in 33 appearances this season.
The Blue Jackets are 14 points behind the Boston Bruins for the second wild-card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It would take a remarkable run of success for Columbus to reach the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time in franchise history.
