Reason No. 100 why college football is awesome: The best throw in first half of the Sugar Bowl was made by a wide receiver.

No. 4 Ohio State needed a spark after falling behind to No. 1 Alabama early in the second game of the College Football Playoff semifinals. So with time running out in the first half, the Buckeyes decided to reach into their bag of tricks. The result was spectacular.

What makes this play so amazing is that the Crimson Tide weren’t even fooled by the double reverse. Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer just delivered a perfect ball that sailed over the defender’s head, and wideout Michael Thomas made a spectacular effort to keep a foot in bounds for the score.

Spencer isn’t too shabby at catching the ball himself, as he nearly pulled down a ridiculous (near) catch in the first quarter that would have made Odell Beckham Jr. proud.

The impressive Spencer-to-Thomas connection was a key play in the first half, as it cut Alabama’s lead to just one point after 30 minutes of action.
