MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — Welcome to New England, Kung Fu Panda.

Pablo Sandoval, who signed a five-year contract with the Boston Red Sox this offseason, grew up in Venezuela and spent his first seven major league seasons with the San Francisco Giants. The 28-year-old never saw snow in person until Friday/Saturday at the Baseball Winter Weekend at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

“Great,” Sandoval said Saturday with a smile when asked for his first impression. “Having fun.”

Sandoval posted a photo Saturday morning on Twitter and Instagram of him standing outside in the snow. The caption read, “best day ever,” which Sandoval confirmed was a reflection of his excitement about the weather.

“Yeah. Because as a little kid you want to play with it,” Sandoval said. “This time, you see my age, 28. Seeing snow for the first time is great.”

Sounds like the panda is morphing into a polar bear before our very eyes.
