The NFL has a gigantic mess on its hands.

The two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl are supposed to be about dissecting every aspect of the big game. But this year, with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks preparing to grapple in Super Bowl XLIX, the hot topic is “DeflateGate.”

The footballs the Patriots supplied for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game win over the Indianapolis Colts reportedly were found to be under-inflated. A whole bunch of drama has since ensued, with some suggesting that the NFL must come down extremely hard on the Pats, who don’t exactly have the best reputation in the wake of SpyGate.

Are people full of hot air with regards to the league’s latest controversy? Or will this whole ordeal lead to harsh punishment for New England before its Super Bowl showdown?

NESN.com’s Ricky Doyle caught up with NESN.com Patriots beat writer Doug Kyed on Wednesday to discuss the NFL’s tricky situation.
