If Andre Dawkins comes to the Celtics, then chances are he’ll be spending more time in Portland, Maine, than in Boston.

CSNNE.com’s A. Sherrod Blakely reported Tuesday that if the Celtics do sign the 23-year-old shooting guard to a 10-day contract after they meet this week, he’ll likely be assigned to the D-League with the Maine Red Claws for all or most of that time.

While it might seem counterproductive for Boston to use its last roster spot on someone being sent to Maine, Dawkins would be guaranteed playing time there, giving the Celtics a chance to get a good look at him. As an undrafted free agent out of Duke, Dawkins’ NBA career was limited to just 22 minutes over four games with the Miami Heat before they waived him earlier this month.
