Nate Robinson’s second stint with the Boston Celtics was never expected to last long. It turns out the veteran guard barely would have had time to have breakfast in his new/old home.
As expected, the Celtics bought out Robinson’s contract Wednesday, mere hours after announcing the trade in which they acquired him from the Denver Nuggets, USA Today’s Sam Amick reports. Robinson was due $2.1 million this season on the two-year deal he signed in 2013.

The Celtics on Tuesday traded point guard Jameer Nelson to the Nuggets straight-up for Robinson. Nelson himself had joined the Celtics less than one month earlier in the trade that shipped Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks. One of the three players Boston acquired in that deal, center Brandan Wright, was traded to the Phoenix Suns last week.
Robinson, 30, joined the Celtics in two separate stints from 2010 to 2011, averaging 6.9 points per game in 81 games with the team. He averaged 5.8 points per game with Denver this season in limited minutes.
