The Memphis Grizzlies already have two former Boston Celtics on their roster, and they could be looking to add a third.
ESPN’s Marc Stein reported early Thursday morning, citing league sources, that the Grizzlies are looking to swing a trade for either the Celtics’ Jeff Green or the Miami Heat’s Luol Deng in order to add some depth on the wing.
Trade speculation involving Green is nothing new, and the rumor mill has kicked into another gear ever since the Celtics jettisoned Rajon Rondo last month.
Green is Boston’s leading scorer this season (17.4 points per game), but his production has dropped off sharply since the Rondo deal went through last month. He’s averaged just 13.0 points per game over his last 10 contents and has failed to reach double figures in three of his last five.
The 25-10 Grizzlies own the third-best record in the Western Conference but could benefit from a bump in scoring at the three. Ex-Celtic Tony Allen, Vince Carter, Tayshaun Prince and Quincy Pondexter all are averaging fewer than eight points per game this season.
Any Green or Deng deal likely would include Price and his $7.7 million expiring contract as well as “the promise of future draft compensation,” per Stein.
