Someone in the NFL didn’t take too kindly to comments about Darrelle Revis from an unlikely source.

Tampering charges have been filed against the New York Jets after owner Woody Johnson made comments about Revis during a Dec. 29 news conference, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter’s report doesn’t mention who filed the charges.

Johnson said during the news conference that the Jets would “love for Darrelle to come back” to New York. That’s usually a no-no under NFL rules, as teams aren’t supposed to publicly state interest in players on other teams.

Johnson later recanted, saying he “misspoke” when talking about Revis.

Revis spent the first six seasons of his career with the Jets. Over the summer, he joined the Patriots on a one-year contract that includes a $20 million team option for 2015. Revis will become an unrestricted free agent if New England declines that option.
