If it’s any consolation to the New England Patriots, it appears one of their biggest adversaries is on their side.
Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan briefly spoke to reporters in Phoenix on Thursday, but it was still enough time for someone to ask a DeflateGate question. Ryan scoffed after being asked if he ever suspected the Patriots of deflating footballs while he was coaching the New York Jets.
“I’m not going to … I can’t … No, I never, you know, I don’t see that,” Ryan said, per MassLive’s Kevin Duffy. “And I think it’s unfortunate that this takes away. This is the biggest stage there is, and here we’re talking about something like that. It is a black eye to the (NFL), and the league will handle it as they see fit. But they’re a great football team, and they’ve earned the right to get (to Super Bowl XLIX). Same thing with Seattle.”
What’s more, Ryan doesn’t believe the controversy will do anything to harm the legacies of Patriots coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.
“I don’t think that’s anything,” Ryan said. “I mean, when you look at, you’re going to have a guy that’s arguably going to end up being if not the best coach in the history of the game, at least in that conversation. Same thing about their quarterback. So I don’t think it’s going to be anything.”
