Richard Sherman Makes DeflateGate Joke While Playing ‘Madden’ With Shane Vereen

Richard Sherman couldn’t resist.

The Seattle Seahawks cornerback is one of the best in the business at what he does, and he’s also one of the NFL’s best trash talkers. He showed Wednesday that trash talk isn’t reserved for only the field.

Sherman and New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen will meet up Sunday in the Super Bowl, but first they got together for a friendly game of “Madden.”

Vereen ultimately picked up a 14-0 win, but Sherman certainly had the best quip. After Vereen scored on a touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Julian Edelman, Sherman quickly chimed in.

“Check the football, ref,” Sherman said, according to The Boston Globe.

That, of course, is a not-so-subtle reference to the ongoing DeflateGate controversy. It’s very safe to say that joke will be used roughly 23 million times Sunday during the game, too.

The highlights from the matchup can be seen below.

The Patriots seem to have all the “Madden” mojo going their way at the moment. In addition to Vereen’s win, the “Madden” simulation picked the Patriots to win the game.
