According to Tom Brady, the NFL is putting its investigation into DeflateGate on hold until after Super Bowl XLIX.
The New England Patriots quarterback joined ESPN’s Chris Berman for an interview at halftime of the 2015 Pro Bowl and had some interesting remarks when asked if the league has contacted him yet about his team’s ball-deflating controversy.
“No, no,” Brady said, via ESPN.com. “I believe they’re going to do that after the season, so we’ll deal with it after this game.”
Brady said in a news conference Thursday that the league still hadn’t contacted him to discuss the issued.
This “news” undoubtedly is frustrating for those hoping the NFL would release a verdict on DeflateGate and put the whole thing to rest. It appears the NFL just has decided to table things until the offseason, though, allowing Brady and Co. to direct all of their energy toward their matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
“I certainly hope not,” Brady said when asked if DeflateGate has taken away from his team’s Super Bowl preparation. “I think we’re a pretty mentally tough team, and I think we’ve dealt with other things in the past.”
New England, of course, also dealt with the Spygate controversy at the end of the 2007 season leading up to Super Bowl XLII, which they lost 17-14 to the New York Giants.
In more ways than one, Brady and the Patriots are hoping the script will be a bit different this time around.
